Details of the Fellowship

The United Nations Economic Fellowship is intended to give young professionals in the public sector, international development, or academia real-world experience in their early to mid-career phases.

The UN’s regional office in Africa is called the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and it focuses on the social and economic development of the continent. Due to its special status, ECA is able to make a major contribution to the development efforts of its member states in Africa, supporting regional goals, the African Union’s Agenda 2030 and 2063, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and regional objectives.

Eligibility  for the United Nations Economic Fellowship

In order to be eligible for the United Nations Fellowship Program 2024, candidates need to fulfill the necessary requirements:

  • Age: Must be 35 years of age or younger while applying.
  • Nationality: The applicant must be a citizen of an Economic Commission for Africa member state.
  • Education: A master’s degree, doctorate, or an equivalent credential must have been earned by July 1, 2024.
  • Interest: Must possess a thematic interest in one or more of the categories mentioned.
  • Project Work: In the mentorship division, sub-regional office, or ECA centers, the candidate will work on a predetermined project.
  • Attendance at Meetings: As delegated, participants must attend national, regional, or worldwide meetings.
  • Research Presentation: A peer-reviewed research paper must be submitted and presented at the conclusion of the project.
  • Alumni Engagement: Will join an alumni association of ECA Fellows and become part of the international development community of practice.

Benefits of United Nations Economic Fellowships

The chosen fellows will be awarded:

  • USD 3,000 as a one-time settling-in grant (for fellows hired from outside the duty station).
  • USD 3,000 monthly stipend throughout the fellowship’s length.
  • The fellowship may be extended for an additional six months after its first six-month term ends.
